Guided Fly Fishing Trips
Fly fishing New Zealand’s South Island’s rivers is a challenge like no other. With spectacular scenery and pristine waters these wily big brown trout require experience and stealth to hunt and outwit. Known as the ‘Everest of Angling’ New Zealand South Island browns are not easy fishing but are thrilling, challenging and absolutely memorable to stalk and hook.
Murchison is centrally located with spectacular back country rivers and a multitude of diverse tributaries and spring creeks to sidle up with travel times ranging from a half hour drive up to remote heli-fishing and hike-fishing. It is all accessible from Murchison.
We are on the southern edge of Kahurangi National Park for heli-fishing access.

Trip Types
Multi-day fishing
Camp out or return to town, or circuit the West Coast. Customized to suit your preferences.
Heli-fishing
Access back country rivers in the Kahurangi or Paparoa ranges and Nelson Lakes areas.
Half day/Full day
Drive 30-90 minutes from Murchison, the centre of a multitude of fishing options for a few hours or a long day of fishing.
Novice tuition
Great for beginners or for up-skilling. You will learn casting techniques, fly selection, stalking and reading the river.

General Info
An average day fishing would usually involve a pick up about 7.30am, a drive of up to an hour and a half to access the days’ fishing spot. A day of fishing with lunch on the river and returning approx. 5.30 to town.
Generally we use a 9ft, 6wt or 5wt, fast action rod, throwing long leaders.
LICENSE
A fishing license is required to fish in New Zealand and is the responsibility of the angler. Fish & Game New Zealand is the authority that issues fishing licences.

Women Fly Fishing
The rise of women’s fly fishing lately is really exciting, with more women discovering the joy and challenge of the sport. Women of all skill levels are warmly invited to learn from Jason. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your techniques, Jason’s expertise and encouragement will help you enjoy this exciting sport and join a vibrant community of female anglers.
Gear
Gear provided includes fishing rod, flies, some waders and boots (limited sizes) are available.
Gear you need to bring includes:
- License (see above)
- Waders or thermal leggings with shorts, depending on the weather conditions
- Fishing Boots
- Sunhat
- Polarised sunglasses
- Fingerless sungloves
- Sunblock
- Insect repellent
- Lunch & water (or can be provided)
- Medication (if applicable)
Rates
Rates vary depending on the specifics of the trip, but the rates below are a guideline.
All prices are in NZ dollars.
Rates are for max of 2 people.
A 50% deposit is required at booking, refundable up to 60 days prior to the trip. The balance is due on the day of the trip. International money transfer rates are the responsibility of the guest.
